MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS!
NO FARMERS MARKET THIS WEEK due to heat!
Our final work sessions are in Sign Up Genius. Please remember that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to pay you past 40 hours. If there is money remaining at the end of the summer, I will divide it among those who worked extra!
The Botanical Garden trip has been cancelled for now due to lack of interest and high heat. We will come up wiht another way to celebrate our summer!
Check Your Hours!
UPDATED HOURS LOG! This will list all your hours until Sunday, August 10, 2026. Look for your email and add your hours! Let Mrs. C. know immediately if there are issues.
If you meet your cap and choose not to work, you CAN still participate in our fun events!
$50 cash prize from Mrs. C.
Our fan favorites aren't selling because they are geared toward fall/winter. Our 2nd market didn't make as much because people can't use our products quickly. They can only eat so much jelly!
WE NEED PRODUCTS THAT:
Appeal to people in the heat/summer.
Can be used up so that they come back for more within a week or two.
May be jarred, bagged, fresh, dried, baked, veggies, flowers, plants--whatever!
MUST be affordable and tie to our program.
MUST be easy to moderate to produce
Can reasonably be packaged and transported
HOW TO GET STARTED!
Research!
(visit markets, Google, check out the market "How To" books in 125, think about what you'd like.
Use Mrs. C like a coach!
Work with a team with other interns, if you'd like, or get your friends/family involved!
Consider further developing or changing a current product.
HOW WE WILL JUDGE
Points for criteria in first colum.
Points for selling out quickly.
Points for repeat requests
Ability to improve product based on feedback from your first market, if applicable.
HOW TO ENTER!
Complete this gForm, Right Here!
Your product will be evaluated by Mrs. C and one of these will happen:
Greenlight for production by team.
Yellow Light-may need more development (she will help)
Red Light-a fundamental flaw (like needing to grow pineapple or sell alcohol) exists.
REMEMBER-some of our best selling items are very simple and don't cost a lot of money!
Reflection Highlights
Interns submit a reflection at the end of every shift as part of their hours log. Here are some thoughtful examples.
"A lot of my work was in the chicken coop, and to be honest, those chickens genuinely used to scare me until today. I used to think I would always get pecked, but after going in and being with them I realized they aren't that bad."
Regarding the market- "I was surprised that we cleaned everything like it was a walk in the park."
"I learned that showing up is the thing that counts."/"I learned that showing up is the thing that matters most."
"I figured out that talking to people as they walk up to your stand typically gets them more even more engaged into what you’re selling at first and they will be further inclined to purchase an item."
"I wonder how weeds are weeds, as in like why are they harmful but other plants aren’t."
From Mrs. Cummings-"Weeds are plants that grow where you don't want them to grow. Not all are harmful. Some are quite helpful exactly where they are, even if a person can't see it right away or ever. Some are misunderstood. Weeds and people have a lot in common."
ALWAYS check your shift location!
We are adding Barbara C. Jordan's garden as a location!
Check the weather before you come to work. Outside work will continue in the rain as long as there's no thunder.
ONGOING REMINDERS:
Interns MUST complete a gForm reflection when they log their hours.
They'll be provided 5 minutes at the end of each shift to do so!
Interns who leave early will have 24 hours to complete their reflection and log hours.
Farmer's Market Work Shifts
Anyone who stays after 7pm to clean up will be paid double for that 30 minutes. IT IS PART OF THE SHIFT.
If you make a habit of leaving early, you will not be able to continue at future markets. The work is too hard on the rest of the team.
You MUST bring a water bottle, wear shorts/closed toed shoes or you will be sent home if the heat is above 85 degrees.
Bring a sandwich or snacks.
We will have granola bars available.
You will be given a 20 minute dinner/bathroom break!
We will have a cooler with ice on hand!
