Thank you to UCity in Bloom for allowing us to raise money at their annual plant sale and for the endless support and encouragement! What an encouraging bunch of gardeners!
Their mission is, "to enhance University City through artfully designed public gardens, community involvement, partnerships and environmental education."
Boy, do they do this well! We appreciate the beauty they bring to our schools and neighborhoods.
We were proud to be part of their 2018 Garden Tour!
From their website:
"Since 1984, Seed St. Louis has connected people to the land, to their food, and to each other. We are a 501c3 nonprofit who supports a network of over 250 community gardens, school gardens, and urban orchards in neighborhoods throughout the St. Louis region. Our purpose is to provide communities with the tools, education, and empowerment to grow their own food."
BWMS is incredibly proud and grateful to be part of Seed St. Louis' garden network. They provided us with our first raised beds and dirt, and helped us with the installation. The next spring, they enabled us to expand into orchard plants! In Spring, 2022, we created our Side Hustle Garden and they connected us with the USDA so that we could afford the dirt needed to fill our beds!
Founded in 1996!
"The University City Education Foundation is an agent for excellence in the University City public schools, stimulating innovative, exciting approaches to education, with measurable results, that can be broadly applied. The Foundation will accomplish this by raising and distributing private funds, engaging the community in school issues, and collaborating closely at each step with our public schools."
UCEF lives its mission statement! in 2018, before we ever had a garden, we had a small shed, a compost bin, and two banks of growlights. These were funded by the organization when the garden was still a dream, and for a winter, they were the only tangible proof that we were moving forward. UCEF continues to be an amazing supporter of our garden program and they make imaginative learning possible.
In February, 1952, the Richmond Heights Garden Club (R.H.G.C.) incorporated as a part of the Gardeners of America. At that time, there was a push for gardening self-sufficiency and home grown vegetables.
Seventy years later, the R.H.G.C continues to beautify the Richmond Heights area and support the community through its civic endeavors. This includes a scholarship for horticulture students at St. Louis Community College Meremec Campus.
We thank the Club for its generous $500 donation toward our Tuff Shed.
During the pandemic, we started to realize that our first small shed wouldn't be enough to house our tools and equipment. We were fully self-supporting and the students weren't in school to help with fund raising and grant writing.
St. Louis Community Foundation made sure that we had what we need and our big, blue shed has made all the difference in our protecting our gear and keeping it organized.

Our teacher contacted owner, Jeff Dotson, to ask what paint the kids could use to decorate their "new" 20 year old van. Instead, he offered to create decals to wrap the van for free. As a result of his generosity, the Pollinator 3000 was born and has been used to inspire people to protect pollinators ever since!

When the district gave us a 20 year old van for beekeeping and public events, we quickly cleaned it and named it. Albertin applied our decals and touched up the paint. We are incredibly grateful.
If you EVER need autobody work done, this is the place to go! Tell them the Brittany Woods Beekeepers sent you!

4-H helps kids find their spark, build real world skills and become resilient, adaptable, lifelong learners.
For our youth the road ahead may be challenging, yet 4-H'ers are succeeding. Data shows that compared to their peers they're:
2x more likely to have the goal of being a leader
3x more likely to participate in community service
2x more likely to report living life with intentionality and purpose
