The idea of this training program emerged based on the actual need of the Program in Global Languages and Communication (GLC) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). The main purpose of the program included offering the program's faculty the instruction in how to teach live (synchronous), self-paced (asynchronous), and blended (hybrid) online courses/programs in translation and interpreting. The program was also aimed at providing clear, simple guidance on how to teach interpreter/translator professional ethics, standards, protocols, practical interpreting skills, addressing communication barriers, and more in an online medium.
In this section, it is possible to see the examples of the supplementary materials which I created for discussing and sharing with the participants of this training program so that they could use the same or develop some similar documents, aids, and visuals for their own students and trainees in the future as well. More specifically, the samples presented here include the examples of a mastery check document, student progress, pacing and grade trackers, guided video note-taking sheets, one-pagers and handouts, graphic organizers, visible thinking reflection sheets, formative grading scale, reassessment tickets, a seating chart for student/trainee groups, and a classroom map.
