NEW Mentor Teachers

Mentors who have completed the modules, please take this survey so we can issue your certificate of completion.

If you are a NEW mentor teacher to UCI, or haven't worked with UCI in over 5 years, the CTC requires us to offer you 10 hours of training. We know that you are all very busy, so we designed to modules so they can be integrated with the work you are already doing with your student teacher. At the end of the year you will recieve an email survey where you can check off the modules you completed with your student teacher. Please let me know if you have any questions about the modules for the CTC requirement.

Email sent by Susan Toma-Berge on 10/1/18 to Mentor Teachers who may need to complete this training.

Hello Mentor Teachers,

Thank you again for working with our UCI student teacher. You are receiving his message because you are a new mentor teacher (for UCI) and/or you have not yet completed 10 hours of mentor teacher professional development. A new CTC policy states that all credential programs in California must provide 10 hours of professional development on effective mentoring. If you have been a UCI mentor teacher in the last 5 years, you are not required to complete these 10 hours.

In order to make the process as easy as possible for mentor teachers, we have designed a set of online modules that allow you to complete these 10 hours at home or together with your student teacher during collaborative planning time. The modules contain a video, access to resources and a suggested activity to complete with your student teacher.

The modules are available at: https://sites.google.com/uci.edu/uci-mentors/home

We designed modules to cover a variety of topics that will support your work as a mentor teacher. In the Multiple Subject Program, some of these modules have been assigned as homework for the student teachers to complete together with their mentors.

Here are a few additional ways to meet the 10 hour requirement:

- A certificate of completion from another CA credential program (counts for 8 hours)

- BTSA or Induction Support Provider Training from your district (counts for 5 hours)

- Meeting and conferencing with your UCI Supervisor (counts for 2 hours)

- Attendance at the UCI Orientation on 9/20/18 (counts for 2 hours)

At the end of November, I will send out a survey where you indicate which modules you completed. Please let me know if you have difficulty accessing the modules or require additional information.
