December update

Email sent by Susan on 11/27/18

Dear Mentor Teacher,

Thank you so much for your support of our UCI student teachers. They are almost to December, when they embark on their 3 weeks of student teaching.

I have attached a hand-out that describes the student teaching experience. Here are key points of the December student teaching experience:

- Student teacher is in your classroom Monday –Friday for the entire month of December (except December 6th, when they are at UCI for PD)

- Student teachers must plan/teach a minimum of 3 lessons each week (collaboration on these lesson plans with mentor is fine)

- Student teachers must actively participate every day, co-teaching with the mentor

- The UCI Supervisor will visit in December for an in-person observation and conference. Mentors are invited and welcome to participate in the conference.

I also attached a sample takeover schedule so both the mentor and student teacher have a clear idea of who is the lead teacher and who is the co-teacher. For more information on co-teaching, please visit this MODULE. (I will review these documents with student teachers on Friday, November 30th)

Toward the end of the December placement, please arrange for a time to conference with your student teacher about their final evaluation. The evaluation will be emailed to you on December 3rd and due on Qualtrics on December 21st. Here is a paper copy so you can preview the evaluation with your student teacher. SAMPLE EVALUATION

For the new mentors who have completed the 10 hours of professional development, please complete this survey so we may send you a certificate of completion. SURVEY
