In Canada, price tags on items do not match the total price upon purchase. We know, we know- this is annoying for almost everyone except Canadians who are used to it!
While there is typically no tax on vegetables and meat, a 5% Government Sales Tax (GST) is added at the time of purchase in Alberta. Other provinces have an additional provincial sales tax, so please keep that in mind when shopping in other places!
Please also be aware that there is often a small deposit fee of $0.10 to $0.25 on recyclable drink containers such as cartons/jugs of milk, juice, pop, bottled water etc. You can return these containers at bottle depots to get the money back, but it is common to just put them in the labeled collection containers on campus and they will be recycled properly.

Superstore is a large store with affordable groceries, personal care items, kitchen supplies, and clothing. Think of it as Canada’s version of Walmart!
