Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Standards

Founded in 1942 by a coalition of provincial associations, the CAMRT is Canada’s national professional association and certifying body for medical radiation technologists and therapists across the country.  There are four disciplines represented among CAMRT’s membership: radiological technology, magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.

CAMRT Pledge

In the presence of this assembly, as a medical radiation technologist,

I solemnly promise to carry out all duties assigned to me faithfully and to the best of my ability;

to keep the patient's welfare as my first consideration;

to hold in confidence all personal patient information coming to my knowledge;

to promote the art and science of my profession; and to do all in my power to uphold and improve its highest traditions.

All students enrolled in the Radiation Therapy program are bound by, and shall comply with, the standards, expectations and Professional Codes of Ethics governing the profession and practice of Radiation Therapy, including all CAMRT standards.

CAMRT Code of Ethics

• The CAMRT Code of Ethics has been developed by members to articulate the ethical behaviour expected of all medical radiation technologists and to serve as a means for reflection and self evaluation. Members of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) recognize their obligation to identify, adopt and promote exemplary professional standards of practice, conduct and performance. While performing professional activities, medical radiation technologists shall uphold the vision of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) by adhering to a specific set of tenets of ethical conduct.

CAMRT Description of Practice

• This page provides a description of practice in medical radiation technology in the current Canadian healthcare environment, and to present the core professional attributes required by a medical radiation technologist (MRT) to practice safely and effectively.

CAMRT Best Practice Guidelines

• Critical thinking, use of best practices, and resourceful management to ensure competence are significant elements of MRT professionalism. In a dynamic healthcare environment with emerging technologies and changing practice, continuing education is essential to maintain competence. The MRT engages in reflective practice: identifying gaps in knowledge and skills, formulating a learning plan, and completing activities to match learning needs and goals

CAMRT Statement on Inclusion & Diversity

• The CAMRT inclusion and diversity initiative celebrates the individual differences among members and encourages them to learn the importance of, promote, internalize and act on the various dimensions of diversity both in working with their colleagues and in their professional activities.
