Currently, the Geriatric Medicine rotation at the University of Alberta contains no formal teaching on the individual components of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). The Geriatric 5Ms is an easy to use tool to help educate users about key components of the CGA. Our aim with this study was to increase awareness and stimulate discussions about the CGA and its components through the implementation of formal education about Geriatric 5Ms using a set of 5 short modules for the rotating residents. In this pre-intervention survey, we are looking to determine your prior exposure to and experience with the Geriatrics 5Ms model and your comfort level with some of the geriatric medicine competencies.
Completion of this survey is voluntary. This study is independent to your geriatric medicine rotation. Whether or not you participate in the intervention by watching the modules and/or complete the surveys will have no bearing on your geriatric medicine rotation and will not affect nor influence your evaluation. Any information you provide in the surveys will be kept confidential, with your answers remaining anonymous. Only members of the study team will have access to the survey answers. None of your preceptors during your geriatric medicine rotation are involved in the study or will have access to the study results. The results from the study may be presented in an academic journal or at a conference - however, only aggregate anonymized results will be presented which cannot be identified with you. This quality improvement study has been approved by TRAC (approval number: TRACKAFC20211014) and has received a waiver of ethics.
