Residents will meet with their Academic Advisors every two to three months (or more if desired). Before each meeting, residents are required to complete the "Resident Preparation Form" in the CBME Assessment System. Academic Advisors will complete an, "Academic Advisor Meeting Form" in the CBME Assessment System after the meeting. Academic Advisors must also complete a, "Competence Committee (CC) Preparation Form" in the CBME Assessment System prior to each Competence Committee meeting. The University of Alberta offers a full Academic Advisor Resource Guide on their website for more detailed information.
The Competence Committee meets four times a year. Dates are set for September, December, March and May. Learners are signed off as competent based on successful EPA completion, as well as ITERs, STACERs and other relevant evaluations that are taken into consideration. The Academic Advisor's recommendations are also presented to the Competence Committee. The Competence Committee discusses resident progress and updates the Royal College in each meeting (if there are changes).
Failure to consistently initiate EPA's while on service will result in a meeting with your Academic Advisor and the Program Director and a learning plan may be implemented. Initiating EPA's is an important part of professionalism and will be recorded as such.
Please bring these issues to your Academic Advisor and/or the Program Director as soon as possible.
