Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation
in Teacher Education Award
Awarded every second year to an outstanding graduate who has completed a PhD or EdD in Teacher Education, in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, and who has convocated at either the previous Fall or Spring convocations. Selection will be based on scholarly excellence, and preference will be given to dissertations of direct relevance to teacher education practice and policy in Canada. There are no restrictions on citizenship.

Eligibility: Awarded every second year to a student with an outstanding dissertation, who has completed a PhD or EdD in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. Applicants must have convocated in Fall 2021, 2022, or 2023, or in Spring 2021, 2022, or 2023. Selection will be based on scholarly excellence, with preference given to dissertations of direct relevance to teacher education practice and policy, specifically advancing racial justice, decolonization, and Indigenization in Canada. The CRTED would like to encourage students from intersectionally equity denied communities to apply. There are no restrictions on citizenship.
Applicants should submit in an email attachment:
1) A one to two (1-2) page, double spaced summary of your dissertation. At the top of the first page, include the title but no other identifying information.
2) A letter indicating why you believe you are a strong candidate for the award, and why you hope to receive it
3) A letter of nomination from your supervisor or a member of your supervisory committee
The Committee will prepare a short list from the submissions received. Adjudication will be conducted as an anonymized review. Those not included in the short-list will be informed by email. Those included in the short list will be asked to submit a copy of their dissertation to the Awards Committee. The Committee will prepare a second short list from these candidates. A winner will be selected from this short list.
