Welcome to your Critical Care Rotation at the Misericordia Community Hospital!
Please review the below information prior to your rotation.
Please arrive on your first day at 8:00. The ICU is located on the 3rd floor, Unit 3 North. Timing of rounds will vary by attending physician. Please discuss scheduling with your attending at the beginning of each week.
The ICU team is multidisciplinary - rounds will include physicians, nursing, pharmacy, dietary and respiratory therapy. Rounds are usually completed before noon. Afternoons are available for admissions/consults, procedures, family conferences and teaching/reading. Please seek out your own learning opportunities as much as possible.
Sign-out to the on call physician and extender (if present) occurs at 1800. Extenders work from 1800-1800 on weekdays and from 0800-1800 or 1800-0800 on weekends.
Please note: as part of your rotation you are expected to attend Critical Care Grand Rounds. These are held every Tuesday from 12:30 - 13:30 via zoom.
Please review the information on the General Rotation Information page.
Call Room Information:
Residents have an assigned call room on 2East, room 2E-80. This is a shared call room with the Anesthesia Residents but typically ICU residents get first priority. This room is to be used for overnight calls.
Pickup a call room key (in exchange for a $20 key deposit) from Karen Lai (MCH Program Assistant) at her office in room 1N-98 (near the boardroom). Return the key back to the office after your last call.
Call Schedule:
You are expected to do 7 in-house calls including two weekend days (One Friday or Sunday and one Saturday). Please fill in the call schedule emailed to you based on this expectation.
When on call we expect you to stay in-house. You will function as a junior attending - first triaging, reviewing, and managing consults while keeping the staff person up to date as appropriate. Again, please clarify with each of your attending what their expectations are after hours, as practice patterns may vary.
You are not expected to work statutory holidays.
