SIGN-UP FORM

Description

The Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) Team strives to improve health outcomes and health care access for patients with substance use disorders. This team delivers specialty consult services to emergency department patients and hospital inpatients at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. This team also provides patient-centered, evidence-based, and trauma-informed care. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team supports patients at every step in their recovery journey.

The ARCH Team works with a patient's care team in the emergency department (ED) or inpatient setting and assists with:

  • complex withdrawal management

  • treatment and recovery planning

  • counselling, peer and psychosocial supports

  • overdose prevention

  • referrals to wraparound addiction recovery supports

  • linkage to primary and community-based care

  • connections to housing, healthcare coverage, income supports and identification

  • other health promotion interventions

Opportunity

You will be shadowing with the ARCH Team physician for approximately four hours. You will see patients who are admitted to hospital and have active substance use related concerns. There are two possible teams to shadow with:

  1. The Inpatient ARCH physician will see patients who are admitted to the hospital and are on a hospital ward. This will include completing new consults and seeing patients in follow up.

  2. The ED/CMD ARCH physician will see patients who are in the emergency department and Complex Medical Detox (CMD) unit. This will include completing new consults and seeing patients in follow up.

24/7 Crisis Diversion Connector

REACH Edmonton

The connector works closely with inner city clients who frequently access the REACH program, with the goal of connecting them with services to support their complex needs. This shadowing experience will include a tour of various inner city agencies including: Edmonton Public Library social workers, Boyle Street, George Spady, Herb Jamison, Boyle McCauley Health Center, and Bissell. If the opportunity presents itself, there may be an opportunity to chat with the HELP teams with EPS, community paramedics, and community nurses. You can also expect to visit health related spaces, and hopefully meet a few people who are utilizing them along the way.
