WHAT: The NYC Department of Education (DOE) Office of Sustainability’s Youth Leadership Council (DOE Sustainability YLC or YLC) empowers diverse high school students to increase inclusive and impactful sustainability and climate action across NYC schools and communities. The DOE Sustainability YLC encourages diverse high school students to increase inclusive and impactful sustainability and climate action across NYC schools and communities. This year, the YLC will focus on planning the NYC DOE Youth Climate Summit, creating a Climate Action Plan for their school and/ or local community, and learning what organizations across the city are doing to address climate change.

WHAT: The Climate and Resilience Education Task Force is a project of the National Wildlife Federation in New York City and We ACT for Environmental Justice with funding provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Con Edison. The Task Force's Youth Steering Committee is made up of high school students in New York and New Jersey who represent the interests of high school youth at large, and will advise the Task Force on ongoing projects.

WHAT: Through the acrylic paint medium, students will develop advanced painting techniques while exploring the following subjects: still life, nature, and landscapes. A teaching artist will guide students to hone their technical skillset through reviewing best practices in painting. All art materials and Metro Cards will be covered by Studio Institute. WHAT: Sharpen drawing skills and add essential pieces to your art portfolio as you capture still life and live models using graphite pencil, charcoal, and oil pastels. Under the guidance of a professional artist, you will review the fundamentals of a college art portfolio in this six-week course. As a culminating exercise, students will write an artist’s statement that encapsulates their artistic practice. All art materials and Metro Cards will be covered by Studio Institute.
