New York State Youth Leadership Council (Stipend)

WHAT: Student Historian interns are high school-aged students who use the resources of New-York Historical to conduct exciting research and share their scholarship through creative digital projects. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about careers in the museum, library, and history fields; work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their public speaking and leadership skills; and engage in hands-on work to deepen their understanding of American history. The theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America.

WHO: Current 10th, 11th, or 12th Graders ONLY

WHEN: October 26, 2022 - June 7, 2023, every Wednesday @ 4 - 6:30 pm

GuggTeens Collaborative (Stipend)

WHAT: The GuggTeens Collaborative is a program for students who are interested in the arts and would like to learn about the behind-the-scenes of the Guggenheim Museum! Upon successful completion of the program students will receive a stipend of $840! Join to work with other amazing teens from all over NYC, experience current art exhibitions and performances, and amplify teen voices at the museum and beyond! During this program, teens will work in groups to explore how museums and contemporary art intersect with the topics most important to them. Students will also work with mentors to produce new programming or resources for fellow teens and help host teen events at the museum! This is a hybrid program made up of in-person experiences at the museum (75%) and remote meetings or independent work (25%). For each visit to the museum, students will receive free Metrocards and snacks.

WHO: Any High Schooler that Resides in NYC

WHEN: Commit eight hours per month from November 2022 to May 2023 for monthly remote meetings on the first Tuesday of the month @ 7 - 8 pm and two in-person visits to the museum each month on select Sundays from 10am-1pm (exact dates TBD)

Museum Apprentice Program (Paid)

WHAT: New York City teens immerse themselves in art and art history, and learn about museum education while creating their own lessons for audiences of all ages. The apprentices will meet artists and curators to learn about art and our collections, discuss critical topics in the field of museum education, such as working with the public school system and the role of museums in social justice movements, connect with education staff and get training on how to teach from artworks, to people of all ages and abilities, assist with family programs, develop tours and teach camp groups over the summer, learn about education programming in a museum setting, and make connections between art and our world, build public speaking, lesson planning, research, and teaching skills, and strengthen their communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, as well as a sense of time management and responsibility. Interns will get paid $15 per hour up to 180 hours for the year! Metrocards will be provided to support weekend and summer work.

WHO: Any High Schooler aged 14 - 19 years old

WHEN: December 2022 – June 2023 on Thursdays (weekly meetings @ 5 – 7 pm), Fridays (teen events and field trips TBD), Weekends (occasional family events and pop-up talks TBD), and July – August 2023 (Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays @ 9:30 am – 4:30 pm)

Futures and Options: Career Essentials Program (Unpaid)

WHAT: Career Essentials is an after-school career-readiness program that will help you learn important skills for college and the workplace. In the program, you will learn interviewing skills, presentation and communication skills, time management, resume and cover letter writing, and have the opportunity to explore different career options. You will also have the chance to network with and learn from students from different boroughs and high schools, as well as successful professionals.

WHO: Any High Schooler that Resides in NYC

WHEN: One day a week from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm, for 10 weeks (October 28, 2022 – January 20, 2023 & February 13, 2023 – May 12, 2023)
