Video on Evaporation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV9WDCCaKpk
Opening: The teacher will ask the students if they have ever heard of evaporation before, and students will answer based on their current knowledge .
Activity: The teacher and the students will go outside with their journals and observe two puddles on the ground, one in the shade and one in the sun. They will write down their notices/questions inside their journals. In a couple of hours, they will come back and relook at the puddles and observe the changes that occurred, they will make note of the changes in their journals. The teacher will ask the students what the differences between them were and why do you think the one in the sun dried up quicker than the one in the shade. Students will state their ideas on why it might be so. The teacher will then play a video on evaporation and explain why water in the sun evaporates quicker than when in the shade. After the video, the teacher will ask the students what is evaporation and check in for understanding, students will answer with their current understanding.
Closure:Students will write down one thing that they learned today about evaporation on a sticky note and place it on the anchor chart in the front of the classroom with their name on it. The teacher will then read aloud them and answer any questions as needed.
Assessment: Informal-Students will write down why they believe water evaporates quicker when it is in the sun compared to when it is in the shade
Informal: Students write down their noticings and wonderings of the two puddles (puddle in the shade and puddle in the sun)
