As the design leader for this project, I was reunited with a journalism and a computer science students to develop a media report during our immersive quarter in San Francisco. We chose to delve into the story, fanaticism, and mystery behind SF Chinatown's famous Golden Gate Bakery and its incomparable egg tart - "The Heart of the Tart." I learned how to associate the design with the story and how to communicate all of this to someone with a more technical background - my CS colleague.
For the design decisions here, red is the primary color due to its importance in Chinese culture as a symbol of celebration and prosperity. The simple design style, with visible sketches and natural brushes, resonates with the bakery's familiar aspect and the surrounding community.
In the interactive website, this big image was zoomed in as you learn more about the bakery and meet influential personalities for this story - something that portrays the experience of being first overwhelmed by all Chinatown information and then learning about its people. I also added a personal touch with uncountable easter eggs that talk about the time of my cohort in this program - have fun looking for them!
