The User Experience Design class at Northwestern prompted my group to design a solution for a problem of our interest, not establishing technical constraints. We chose food waste and created an app that brought a social engagement app to help people avoid this bad habit.
Everything starts with synchronizing your fridge camera or manually adding the ingredients to your fridge. The system/camera then tracks for how long they have been there and sends a notification when they are about to expire. You can also check how your fridge goes in the app, checking what products are about to go wrong.
The system then uses this information, compared with the refrigerator from your friends, to propose recipes you can cook together. You can invite them and check the recipe/meeting essentials on your table page.
The prototype was created using Figma, and the class also taught me much about User Experience and Design best practices. I learned that good design starts with good questions and, when approaching a project, it is essential to use different techniques such as a journey map, observe all details, and not ignore any crazy initial solution. For future developments, it would be interesting to think more about the actual interface design and aesthetic - since here, it was focused only on usability.
