Content Area Project #3-Language Arts

This project is inspired from a topic in Social Studies 10-1 but is designed for use in a Language Arts Classroom. Students will read a brief description of child labor in an ebook I created using book creator. Once familiar with the basic concepts of child labor, students will complete the learning activity below.

Learning Activity

This activity will use the basic information found in the ebook provided as well as working on students own story writing skills. They will use a photo of a child labourer as the start of their own story where the will demonstrate understanding of the concepts. Have students follow these steps:

Step 1: Have students read the ebook provided on Child Labor

Step 2: Debrief by asking some of the following questions:

• What are the some of the reasons behind child labor?
• Would these situations be allowed in our communities? Why? Why not?
• As consumers in the developed world what is are connection to this problem?
• What hardships to these children face?

Step 3: Complete the following writing assignment:

Step 4: Class discussion: Have students briefly share the main ideas of their stories.
