Use technology to facilitate appropriate assessment and evaluation strategies and determine the effectiveness of technology in curriculum or instruction.
During one of my first courses in the MET program, I had to complete the School Evaluation Summary report. The report included looking at my workplace use of technology for our school. The evaluation involved grading different areas of the school (such as administration, curriculum, support, creativity, and innovation) based on the Technology Maturity Model and the Stages of Technology. As it aimed to evaluate my school, it relates to this PLO as it prompted me to take a closer look at how technologically advanced my school was and the effectiveness of said technology in the classroom and with instruction.
Learning challenges can take many forms while teaching. For this project, I had to discuss the relative advantages of using technology with those learning challenges in the classroom. The Relative Learning Chart aimed to assess and evaluate how adding technology associated with that particular learning challenge can have a positive effect moving forward. This connects to the PLO as it allows the teacher, using the chart, the opportunity to think of possible technology solutions when it comes to learning challenges and the possible effectiveness of the addition of said technology into the classroom.
After learning about the importance of evaluation, evaluating was the main goal for the Confluence Usage Evaluation Report. The project aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using the Confluence product for team collaboration between company departments. The report includes an explanation of the chosen evaluation type and model. This connects to the PLO as the report focuses on the effectiveness of technology in achieving its goals.
This assignment was a chart of software support tools that assessed their relative advantages to using them in the classroom. This assignment connects to the Evaluation & Assessment PLO as it assesses the effectiveness of adding a particular software tool to the school. One of the sections of this assignment also looked at software tools that help with assessment tracking to measure student progress.
The Caring For Our Ocean Animals website was created as a project-based learning lesson plan for an ocean unit for younger students. As part of the unit, assessments and evaluations were created as part of the materials needed for the unit/lesson plan. Online software such as Kahoot! and Padlet assessed the student's knowledge during the lessons. It relates to the first part of this PLO as it uses technology to facilitate assessments of the students during the course of the unit.
