Artist Statement

Hello, I’m Cierra Brannies! I’m a graphic designer and interdisciplinary illustrator who makes art that evokes ideals of innocence, purity, and femininity. My constant focus is my devotion to Christ and aim to reflect Christ in everything I do. I seek to inspire others through example. My perspective comes from a belief in an ideal world and greater good.

I believe I was created to create. I truly believe that in every decision I make, it is God guiding me in that direction. This unforeseen motivation makes everything I create and how I express it special. My art shows the light of Christ by protecting the innocence and purity of life as I perceive it. I celebrate the simplicity and wholesome things in life. I enjoy combining things that bring me joy in my designs and art.

My top two values are staying grounded in two things: my faith and myself. When I stay within myself through connecting to these values, I produce elegant illustration work with a cute, feminine flair. These aesthetics are often overlooked by defaulting to equating them with simplicity or the stereotype of feminine innocence. In contrast, I hope my work will invoke a response of joy, entertainment, and an appreciation for purity.

My design concept Tea Time, is a series of surface patterns for fabric that reflect a youthful spirit and sweet celebration of the ritual of taking tea. Childhood was a precious experience that I carry with me through my life. Each illustration contains elements of my deepest enjoyment. The enchanting experience of sipping a cup of tea and sewing with my mother are forever captured in this collection. I will always stay true to myself through fulfilling who God made me to be, and taking time for a cup of tea.
