BFA Graphic Design
I am a creative, innovative, independent, and hardworking graphic designer with a strong interest in illustration. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska but reared in Atlanta, Georgia. I am currently a Senior at Texas woman’s University. I am a fast Learner and self-motivator when it comes to learning new styles and art forms. I often combine detail-oriented, colorful vector art with Visual Identity, Marketing and Advertising, and Publication Design. Since my Youth I have always had an interest in art which started my love for all forms. When I took my first Graphic Design class in high school I knew this was my passion. Graphic Design lets me explore aspects of art that I never would have tried, and without the trial and error of different processes and ways to approach Graphic design, I wouldn’t know where my art would be today.
My concept for my exhibition assignment is that I will be creating an illustrated poetry book called "You're Enough" for African American girls women about self-love and care. On one hand characteristics like hair texture, lips, curves, skin tone and etc. were frowned upon, and now these features are desired by more women in society. I want African American girls to embrace their natural beauty in all forms. This sensitive topic brings awareness to subtle and not so subtle the destructive practices in the TV, film, advertising, and media at large. As a creator, I think it is very important to be a bridge builder, and celebrator of all creation. It is very important for African American girls to know they aren't alone. No matter what shade of melanin they have because we all share the same problems, and together we can overcome them.
