Ally scans PowerPoint files saved in Canvas course(s) for accessibility issues. It identifies errors, provides a score (based on WCAG), and offers guidance on how to fix them. 

Below are the common error messages and issues Ally finds in PowerPoint files, along with links to CHEAT SHEETS to help fix them.

Images without alternative descriptions: This is a very common error where images, shapes, or charts lack a text description, making them inaccessible to screen readers. 

This presentation does not have headings: Since PowerPoint does not use Heading 1 or Heading 2 like Word, this error indicates that PowerPoint does not contain a properly recognized slide title placeholder(s). Even if the text looks like a heading, PowerPoint may not recognize it structurally.

The presentation does not have a language set:  The document does not specify the language in which it was created, which can cause screen readers to struggle with pronunciation. 

The presentation is missing a title:  The file lacks a descriptive title, making navigation difficult. 

Text with insufficient contrast: The contrast between the text color and the slide background is too low, making it difficult for users with visual impairments to read. 

The presentation has images with insufficient contrast: Visual elements such as images, graphics, or text placed on images do not have enough contrast to be easily seen, making it difficult for users with visual impairments to interpret the content. 

Tables without headers: Tables used in the presentation are missing designated header rows or columns, which prevents screen readers from correctly interpreting the data. 

The presentation is malformed:  The file structure is broken or corrupted. 

The presentation is encrypted: The file is password-protected, which prevents Ally from scanning it.
