Headings and lists provide structure that helps screen reader users navigate content efficiently and helps all learners scan, understand, and follow information more easily. This page shows how to use real headings and real lists in Google Sites.
Screen reader users navigate pages by jumping between headings.
Proper headings create a clear page outline.
Headings reduce cognitive load for all users.
Bold or large text alone does not create structure.
Google Sites provides built-in heading styles. Use these instead of manually changing font size or bolding text.
Click inside the text you want to format as a heading.
Open the text style menu (usually shows “Normal text”).
Select Heading or Subheading.
Click the link icon in the toolbar (or press Ctrl+K on Windows / Cmd+K on Mac).
Lists should be created using Google Sites’ list tools—not hyphens, numbers, or line breaks.
Place your cursor where the list should start.
Select the bulleted or numbered list icon.
Type each list item and press Enter to add the next item.
