Hello First Grade Families!
From Mrs. Shannon Hinds – Room of awesome firsties!
Wow—October is here, and it’s full of fun, fall, and first grade magic! NEWSLETTER
Can you believe the first quarter wraps up on October 9th? Time flies when you’re learning and growing!
Hi families! I’m Ms. Shannon Hinds, and I’ve been teaching for six amazing years! I have a Master’s Degree in Education and I’m currently working hard toward my Doctoral Degree in Education—learning never stops for teachers, either!
I love teaching 1st grade here at Village Charter School, and I’m so proud of all the bright stars in our classroom.
Science: We’re getting things moving with Science in Motion! Push, pull, and explore how things work!
Math: We’re adding, subtracting, and reviewing our place value skills! (Tens and ones, here we come!)
Reading: We’re diving into nonfiction texts—learning how to find the main idea and details. We’ll also revisit our favorite fiction stories and explore different genres!
Helpful tip: Practice reading at home with our awesome library books! Use the reading log and camping color sheet to track your books!
Phonics: This month, our UFLI word work helps us learn spelling patterns and sounds! Practice with the At-Home Practice Sheets we send home.
Check out the videos below for extra help and tips!

In our 1st grade classroom, we have some important rules to help everyone feel happy, safe, and ready to learn. Let’s be our BEST every day by following these:
Be Kind – Use kind words and actions with everyone.
Be a Good Listener – Listen when someone is talking, and follow directions the first time.
Raise Your Hand – Wait your turn to talk.
Keep Hands and Feet to Yourself – Respect personal space.
Work Hard & Try Your Best – Don’t give up, even when it’s tricky!
Be Safe – Walk inside, use supplies the right way, and stay in your space.
When we all follow the rules, we earn Star Points, fun rewards, and best of all… we learn and grow together!
Point of View-
Helpful tool/interactive activity- write the different point of views on sticky notes such as he, she, they, etc. read a story and have them place the correct sticky notes UNDER the correct POV! Any book that has multiples will do. This way they can physically do it while reading with you.
*I have worksheets for literally every section so just let me know!
