Hello April!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. It's hard to believe we are already in the last quarter, but there is still so much to learn!
Please look in your child's binder April 6 for information about our Garbage Monster project. It is one of our favorite projects. I hope you and your child enjoy working on the project. Students will present their monsters to the class Wednesday, April 22 for a speaking grade.
Our FAST Star PM3 for Reading will be Tuesday, April 21 and Math will be Wednesday, April 29.
Here is what we are learning:
Week of March 30-April 3- Phonics- ea (as in bread) and oi/oy (as in soil and boy) sounds, Reading- fiction, Math- pictographs and tally graphs, Social Studies- geography
Week of April 6-10- Phonics- -ou/ow (as in brown), Reading- Nonfiction, Math- Place Value review, Social Studies- geography
Week of April 13-17- Phonics- suffixes -s and -es Reading- reading across genres, Math- Place Value review, Social Studies- geography
Week of April 20-24- Phonics- suffixes -ly, -er, -est, Reading- Fiction, Nonfiction, Reading Across Genres review, Math- Addition and Subtraction review, Social Studies- geography
Week of April 27- May 1- Phonics- doubling rule for -ed , -ing, -er, -est, Reading- Fiction Review, Math-Addition and Subtraction Review, Science- Parents and Offspring

First grade is a fun year. I am looking forward to a successful year! I believe that you and I are a team working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically. You are the most important person in your child’s life and you are also a teacher in your child’s life. I know if we work together and communicate, your child will have a very successful year!
