Dear First Grade Families!       

 Hello September!

 We are looking forward to some excting events this month including Founders' Day! 

Here is what the students will be learning this month:

Math- Reading and writing numbers 1-100 in standard, expanded and word form, composing and decomposing numbers in multiple ways using tens and ones, and plotting, ordering, and comparing whole numbers up to 100.

Reading- Students are learning about main story elements: characters, how to identify the topic and relevant details, retelling a text using story elements, finding text evidence uisng text features, and comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic.

Phonics- Week of August 31-September 4- ck /k/ and sh /sh                                                                                                           Week of Septmeber 8-11- th /th/ voiced and th /th/ unvoiced                                                                                                             Week of September 14-18- ch /ch/ and Digraphs Review 1                                                                                                                        Week of September 21-25- wh /w/, ph /f/                                                                                                                                                   Week of September 28- October 2- nk and Digraphs Review 2

Social Studies- Civics and Government- This month we will focus on American Symbols and Government

Science- Students will learn about the practice of Science and Living and Nonliving Things

Thursday, September 10- FAST Star Math PM1

Friday, September 11- Founders Day 5:30-8:00

First grade is a fun year.  I am looking forward to a successful year!  I believe that you and I are a team working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically.  You are the most important person in your child’s life and you are also a teacher in your child’s life.  I know if we work together and communicate, your child will have a very successful year!
