TUSD Teacher Tech Support

The Torrance Unified School District's AI Committee (est. 2023) is composed of educators, administrators, parents/ guardians, and other district stakeholders. The committee is dedicated to achieving several vital goals. These objectives primarily revolve around creating comprehensive policies to govern the use of Artificial Intelligence in education. Overall, the AI committee's efforts are geared toward creating a well-defined and forward-looking framework for the responsible and effective use of Artificial Intelligence in education, with a strong emphasis on fostering digital citizenship and enhancing the learning experience.

Stakeholders Included in the TUSD AI Committee:

Teachers (Elementary, Middle, & High School), Principals (Elementary, Middle, & High School), the Coordinator of Expanded Learning, the Director of State and Federal Projects, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, TUSD Parent, the EdTech Team, & the Chief Technology Officer.

Through our AI initiatives, we aim to ensure that all members of our community are empowered to thrive in an increasingly complex digital world.

Core Accomplishments of the TUSD AI Committee:

1.) Developed policy and guidelines for both teacher and student use

2.) Updated the TUSD Annual Rights and Responsibilities Agreement (as of 2024)

3.) Established a Professional Development Plan for AI Literacy: How integrating AI-based technology can support the SAMR Model to scaffold instruction and maximize its impact on student learning (Ongoing)

4.) Launched an AI Exploration Program to pilot AI tools, drive pedagogical innovation through AI implementation, and generate data-driven insights to refine best instructional practices and optimize student learning. (Started May 2024)
