This is a text based input file for the PHIsimv3 program. It can be edited using notepad or any other text editor. The file contains information on the carrier densities in all segments of the optical circuit. These values are the starting values for the carrier densities used in the simulation. The file has two columns. In the first column is the segment number (starting from 0) in the second column is the carrier density in units of carriers per m3. This file always needs to be supplied but putting -1 -1 on the first line of the file makes that the concentration will be made 0 at the start of the simulation in all segments.
Please note that when providing data a value must be given for all segments, thus also for the passive ones.
Please note that the default starting carrier densities in SOA, SA and ISO segments are the transparency densities. In case one wants to deviate from those starting values (e.g. to start at 0), use the carrier densities input file.
PHIsim_v3 also generates a carrier density file which contains the density of all segments in the circuit at the end of the simulation. This file can be used as input file in the next run. One can for instance first in a long simulation determine steady state concentrations and then start subsequent simulations from that point.
An example of a carrier densities file is on the Examples page.
