What: Yabana (Ya-ba-na) Club is a time for our Indigenous students to gather together and explore their own cultural identity to promote a proud, positive self-image. Yabana means talking or yarning in our local Wulgurukaba language. These gatherings endeavour to help students gain confidence and self-esteem through participating in a variety of activities including: delivering the Acknowledgement of Country, yarning circles, exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and their symbolism, celebration of significant Indigenous dates, boomerang decorating and throwing workshops, didgeridoo playing (boys), weaving (girls), damper tasting, exploring local Creation stories and traditional outdoor games.
