IECM - Indigenous Education Comitee Meeting
The Indigenous Education Committee’s aim is to make strategic decisions around the promotion of Indigenous issues in the College community. The committee ensures that designed goals remain aligned with the vision for Indigenous Education as outlined in the Townsville Catholic Education Office (TCEO) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategic Plan.
This committee consists of the Indigenous Education Team members, parents and carers, senior students and TCEO staff. Within these meeting the College this year has formulated a ‘Reconciliation Action Plan’ and ‘Schools and Families Partnership Agreement’ which aligns with a goal set for each annual year.
St Anthony's Catholic College IECM's focus is to:
Increase ALL student and staff awareness, knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history, contributions and perspectives.
Build and strengthen meaningful partnerships between St Anthony's Catholic College and our Indigenous communities and organizations.
Improve academic outcomes and wellbeing for St Anthony's Catholic College Indigenous students.
Educate and promote Indigenous Self-Identification.
Advise on, and support, the ongoing development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in Catholic schools throughout the diocese.
Identify and share best practice around specific Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education issues (culturally responsive pedagogy, student and parental engagement, readiness for school, post-school pathways, etc).
Explore opportunities for engaging with the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Advise on, and support, the ongoing value and promotion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture.
Support ongoing professional communication and learning on contemporary educational developments, trends and initiatives in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education within and between school communities and between schools and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups.

Welcome Night BBQ
16th February (Thursday Week 4)
At the beginning of every year, the Indigenous Education Team from both campuses (Assisi and Padua) like to introduce themselves to new and existing families. All parents and carers invited to attend this night as it serves as our first point of call for addressing any Indigenous programs, initiatives goals for the year.
This is a great opportunity for all students, parents and carers to meet the Indigenous Education team, share a yarn and enjoy a meal.
We look forward to seeing you all the BBQ!
End of Year Celebrations
10th November (Thursday Week 6)
The Indigenous Education Team hosts an End of Year Celebration and Awards Night, which aims to acknowledge all the hard work our students have done throughout the year.
This formal occasion ensures that our students, families and community connections remain strong and meaningful.
During the night, students are presented with their Emerging Leaders Incentive Levels (Gold, Silver and Bronze) and enjoy an extravagant meal.
