The Academy is hosting a community café event on Wednesday 1st of December from 3:15-4:15pm. We are welcoming members of the community to come for some refreshments, take part in student led activities and have a chat. Some of our students are putting on stalls with different activities and there will be performances by our GCSE dance students. This event is the first community café the Academy has hosted in the past two years, so we would love to see as many members of the community as we can! Family and friends are also welcome.
CONGRATULATIONS to Nikola P for her winning entry to the boat of hope competition - her art work has been entered into the national competition GOOD LUCK!

The Health Tree foundation has sent a lovely letter for all staff and students thanking them for donations for our recent neo natal fundraiser.
Our Academy community is all about being GREAT and during this difficult time we were able to support our community and share the love!
The House Leaders would like to say a special thank you to all of you!
Christmas Neo natal project
Christmas this year was different for all and at TSLA we wanted to help support our local community with a bit of ‘Christmas’ spirit!
We worked alongside The Health Tree Foundation – a charity for the Scunthorpe Hospital. Every Christmas they collect items donated to 'gift' the parents and babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICCU). However due to COVID parents are not allowed out once they are in the ward so it may be hard to get snacks, toiletries etc.
This was a whole school effort and in particular our Y9 enrichment groups who were the ‘organisers’ to help fundraise encouraging students and staff to donate items.
The Year 9 Media, Archbishop of York and Duke of Edinburgh enrichment students created a variety of videos, presentations and posters that were used to promote the event at school , to contact local supermarkets for donations as well as creating lovely cards and messages of hope that were included in the packages sent to the hospital.
Please see some of the posters created and messages of hope as well as the ladies from the HTF who came to collect the packages.
Well done all we really did show the TSLA Christmas spirit!
Our next House Competition is part of our Road Safety Week. Now you have learnt a bit more in this week's assembly, we are asking you to create a Road Safety poster with the theme "There is no need to speed". These can be done on the computer or on paper and given ( or emailed) to Mrs Hepworth by the 27th November.
Thanks to everyone that entered. Our winning entries for each house were:
Gold: Victoria ( 10G)
Ruby: Roxy (7R)
Emerald: Maria (9E)
Amethyst: Sasha (9A)
Turquoise: Hamza (7T)
We are in the process of setting up a penpal project with some of our local primary schools. The plan is to swap letters with their year sixes. The primary schools that are taking part so far are Winteringham Primary and Scunthopre CofE and we are hoping to add more to the list. If you are interested in being part of this project please get in touch with Mrs Hepworth.
UPDATE: Our first wave of penpal letters have gone in the post on the 5th November. Hopefully we will have some replies soon.
UPDATE: 30th November - We have received our first set of replies from Winteringham Primary School
Its not too late to get involved!
UK Parliament Week is an annual festival that engages people from across the UK with their UK Parliament, explores what it means to them and empowers them to get involved. At TSLA we will be learning more about the UK Parliament through assemblies and character lessons. Year Nine students will be running and taking part in a mock election. All students will have the opportunity to take part in a House quiz and earn House points.
