Middle School Girls First Game Review and Photos

By Ev Nicholes-Fox

The first Green Mountain middle school girls' soccer game took place September 12th against Floodbrook at their field. Last year when they faced Floodbrook, GM lost 0-6 which made this game tense. Floodbrook started with a smaller team but sharp offense, dominating over control of the ball with GM having a strong defense and even stronger communication on the field, arranging themselves to have a tight defense before the goal. Though Floodbrook had the upper hand with more ball control, GM managed to score the first goal of the game. Soon after the first goal, halftime was called. GM team with Coach Andy discussed a game plan and switched around players ending the halftime with a group huddle and the game was back on. Floodbrook came back sharper than before with more pushes and shoves, they managed to score the next goal tying the game. An injury for GM happened though nothing serious but each team took a knee and was respectful during the injury check with the GM team back on the bench offering comfort to the injured player. Floodbrook was quick on their feet however and managed another goal, though their rough behavior was soon matched by GM. The GM team faced another injury but kept their morals high with encouraging cheers and shouts coming from teammates on the side.

If the game was about which team pumped the other up more, GM would’ve won without a doubt. However, GM managed to tie it up scoring their second goal with a penalty kick which was extremely celebrated. Both teams kept up their rough behavior with many close attempts on both teams though the game concluded in a tie, 2-2. Both teams ended respectfully and showed good sportsmanship. The team has started off well with more good games to come.
