A standard installation requires two angle sensors.
The first angle sensor is installed inside the cabin or engine bay on a solid part of the crane.
This sensor measures the attitude of the vessel. See Installing the angle sensor in the cabin.
The second angle sensor is installed on the boom.
This sensor measures the angle of the ladder. See Installing the angle sensor on the boom.
Examples
This example shows a ladder sensor mounted in a top/back orientation.
This example shows an angle sensor bolted onto a mounting plate; shown with a terminator fitted.
This sensor measures the attitude of the vessel.
Trimble recommends that you mount the cabin sensor to a very solid part of the crane body. Avoid mounting on desks as the sensor reading will not be as accurate as sensors mounted on the vessel body.
The Marine Cutter Suction Dredge system contains a multipurpose mounting plate (P/N 110858). The plate provides additional drill holes to allow firm mounting onto a vessel body.
The sensor can be mounted at various angles. After you mount the sensor, you need to configure the TMC software so that it knows the orientation of this sensor. See Orientating the angle sensors.
This sensor measures the angle of the ladder.
The sensor must be installed on the upper part of the cutter ladder to measure the ladder angle. The ladder sensor must be enclosed in a stainless steel housing called a submersible enclosure to protect the sensor from corrosion. An ideal location may be the top of the ladder near the hinge pin as shown. However, this may not be possible in all installations, and the primary objective is to place the sensor in a safe location on a stable surface of the ladder.
Follow the detailed procedure outlined in Best practices for DEUTSCH connector installations for the cable installation.
NOTE- Take care to install the sensor on, or parallel to, the centerline of the ladder/vessel.
The weld plate of the stainless steel mount is welded on a suitable surface at the top of the ladder which is stable (and does not flex) with minimal vibration.
The Kit - Ladder Submersible, TMC Cutter Dredge (P/N 123302-01) contains all the required parts. Follow these guidelines to assemble the submersible enclosure.
The sensor can be mounted at various angles. After you mount the sensor, you need to configure the TMC software so that it knows the orientation of this sensor. See Orientating the angle sensors.
