Back to School Picnic

We start our school year on a Friday in August. Fridays are always half days at TRCS with dismissal at noon. On this first day students start the new school year with a half day orientation to get to know their new learning community and potentially their new teacher and classroom. At noon families are invited to campus for a school wide potluck in the backyard. This community building event is an opportunity for families and students to connect with each other and staff as we start a new school year. We were unable to have the Back to School Picnic in 2021 and look forward to resuming this tradition.

Spirit Week

Each year in the fall TRCS holds School Spirit Week. This annual event is an opportunity for students to demonstrate the REACH values and show their school pride while participating in Field Day, cross age community building games, class competitions, project based learning, school wide art projects, dress up days, and more.

During Spirit Week classes earn points for participation and achievement in the various activities. Each year one class wins the coveted Spirit Week Trophy and is the keeper of the trophy for the remainder of the year.

Each year Spirit Week has a theme that project based learning is centered around. Some past themes have been: Climate Change, Periods in Art History, Great Inventions, Local History and Earth’s Ecosystems. Our 2021 theme was “Coming Back Together” and students all contributed handprints to a student designed and painted mural to be displayed on the front of our school.

Science Fair

Together with our young scientists, staff holds an annual TRCS Science Fair in the spring semester. This event has gone digital during the pandemic and historically has been an evening on campus to show off student science projects to the school community.

Spelling Bee

Each spring TRCS students participate in our annual Spelling Bee. Students study word lists with both words at their spelling level and challenge words. Each class holds a “spell off” to determine three finalists from each class. The finalists participate in the school wide Spelling Bee at this whole school event with prizes for the top three spellers for the academic achievement.

Year End Awards

At TRCS we host an annual Awards Event, traditionally held off campus in a rented hall at the end of the school year. Parents and staff prepare a dinner and tickets are sold as a fundraiser (no one is turned away). Over the years we’ve had a variety of menus from a Chili Cookoff, Enchilada Feast, Spaghetti Dinners and more. An Awards Ceremony is held at the event, and digitally in recent years, to acknowledge student accomplishments throughout the year and students are recognized with award pins and medals.
