1st and 2nd Grade

Welcome to our classroom!

Our first and second grade class is a safe, caring and nurturing environment which embraces diversity and works as a community to support each other. Each day starts off with a morning meeting where students share what's happening and what's on their minds as we focus on social emotional learning. 

Throughout the day,  students learn in leveled groups, individually and as a whole class. In English language arts centers, students are grouped with peers with similar literacy skills and rotate between writing, reading and phonics instruction guided by the teacher and teacher aides. Through our Wit & Wisdom curriculum students take deep dives into science and social studies themed literature units. Students enjoy art projects each week centered on the current literature theme. Math instruction is based in the Bridges Math curriculum that features hands-on lessons and skills practice through math games. 

Technology is integrated in math and English language arts as students access online apps to practice skills on Chromebooks. Afternoons for first and second graders feature lessons and activities in science and social studies, physical education and cross age activities with the older classes.
