The Digital Liberal Arts

The Digital Liberal Arts (DLA) Initiative is the technology-facing side of the BCTE. The Bingham Trust funded its creation in 2017. Its mission is to help faculty integrate technology into teaching and curriculum at Transy. In addition to offering programming, the DLA maintains campus spaces devoted to pedagogy-related technology.

Play with the DLA in May

Our Play with the DLA in May site provides training materials on different technologies available at Transy, including the Adobe Suite and ArcGIS. It also provides materials on how to incorporate video, podcast, and website projects into classes. Keep an eye out for emails from the BCTE about the future Play with the DLA in May events. Reserving Digital Spaces and Equipment

The DLA facilitates the reservation of digital spaces and training for a variety of equipment. Check out our amazing spaces and resources below.

VR Fleet

Transy has a fleet of 20 Meta Quest 3 VR headsets. These headsets are available for class sessions and for student use upon instructor request. So far, Art History, Writing Rhetoric & Communication, Theater, FYRS, and Philosophy have all held class sessions in the VR lab.

The VR lab is mobile. Email Julie Perino to submit a request. We will reserve spaces for teaching sessions based on class needs.

Digital Creative Spaces

Please email the DLA Media Lab Coordinator, Professor Tim Polashek, if you are interested in reserving our digital creative spaces.

Reservation Guidelines for Students, Faculty, and Staff

Please keep the following in mind regarding reserving DLA spaces:

You must have completed equipment training with DLA staff in the current term. If you haven't, reserving the space will include scheduling a training session with DLA staff. Contact Professor Tim Polashek to arrange your training in advance.
Students who wish to work in the lab after hours, on the weekend, or during holidays must have a professor submit an After Hours Request Form to the Dean of the University. The professor who sponsors the student's application should be teaching the class for which the student is completing the project. Faculty members should submit the forms to their division AAs for the Dean's approval.

DArt Labs 1 & 2

Mitchel Fine Arts | Room 25

DArt 1 is a 10-station iMac multimedia production flexible design classroom, including a MondoPad.

Cowgill Center | Room 006

DArt 2 is a 15-station multimedia production flexible design classroom, including a projector and whiteboards.

Green Screen Studio

Cowgill, Lower Level

Video recording, editing, and internet broadcasting space. Equipment includes a video/photography camera and tripod dolly, cinematic lights, wireless shotgun and lavalier microphones, speakers, and an iMac.

Podcast Studio

Cowgill, Lower Level

The space can record four people in conversation, plus a direct line for recording telephone conversations. Equipment includes headphones, microphones, speakers, and an iMac for audio and video editing.
