SciGirls Role Model Training Part I - Recording
We gathered together to discuss SciGirls projects, role model strategies, and FabFems.
SciGirls Role Model Training Part II - Recording
We gathered again to talk more specifically about SciGirls Code curriculum and program locations.
The evaluators of SciGirls Code are gathering your thoughts and feedback on the role model training. Please take 10 minutes to complete a short survey immediately after watching the second session. The survey is also being used to track who has completed the role model training sessions, which are required before serving as a role model. SciGirls Code role models are women who use computer science as part of their job. There are many ways to be involved as a role model. SciGirls Code programs are looking for role models who have experience with the topics described below. Role models will visit clubs once or multiple times. Role models may participate virtually, as well. If you are interested in getting more involved, please contact Casi Herrera.
More information for program leaders about SciGirls Code Role Models is answered in this FAQ.
This first strand will introduce girls to the SciGirls Code program as well as some foundational concepts to set them up for success in the program. They will dip their toes into the coding world with an Hour of Code activity from code.org, then continue on their coding adventure to create mobile apps for Android using Thunkable. Girls will work together to imagine and create an app of their own design during the mobile makeathon.
In this strand, girls will learn about robotics in two different forms. They'll explore the field using Sphero, an all-in-one bot they can program on a mobile device. Next, the girls will build and code their own bots using the Hummingbird platform, recycled materials, and craft supplies.
Girls will engage in a variety of activities in this strand, including making a storage book for their needles, a light-up bracelet, and a piece of flashy fashion using sewable circuitry. The final project will be a group makeathon in which the girls will use the Lilypad Arduino ProtoSnap development board to design a cosplay costume, showing off their design and coding skills.
