Who are Role Models? For SciGirls Code, role models are women who use computer science as part of their job. If you know a prospective role model, but are unsure if her background/job/expertise meeting our requirements for this project, please reach out to Casi Herrera, cherrera@ngcproject.org.
How do you use Role Models? For SciGirls Code, role models are intended to make connections between the content and careers. They also serve as an inspiration, helping the girls see that women in computer science have pets, might be mothers, have hobbies, and are multi-dimensional. They do not assist with instruction (unless they have that expertise and you want to include them).
How often do Role Models visit? The program is designed for each program to have at least one role model visit for each curriculum strand, preferably during the Makeathon; however, role models can attend multiple sessions if it fits with program leader plans. Depending on availability of role models, role models may visit virtually.
How do we find Role Models? We are recruiting role models seeking women in computer science with expertise in the curriculum strands, near each program location. If a program has already located role models, please let us know so we can include them on our mailing list and send them program updates and program evaluation surveys.
How will I contact the Role Models you recruit? We will be introducing you via email to your role model. Once the connection is made, you will work with the role model to schedule her visit(s). We are developing a tracking form which will be located in the Google drive for you to update.
