Social Living
In kindergarten through 2nd grade social living is taught by alternating social studies and science. Both subject are given an equal amount of time throughout the school year.
Social Studies
Terrebonne Parish School District is committed to providing a high-quality social studies curriculum that is aligned to Louisiana state standards. At each grade level, the district has chosen a Louisiana Department of Education Tier 1 curriculum when/if available. The Louisiana Department of Education is still in the process of reviewing the submitted high-quality curriculum for social studies.
Terrebonne Parish School District teachers are implementing the new 2022 K-12 Louisiana Student Standards for Social Studies in the 2023-2024 school year.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students are introduced to the world beyond their family and home. Students will build upon experiences with their families, schools, communities, and parishes as they begin their study of the most fundamental principles and ideas of each of social studies’ core disciplines: history, civics, economics, and geography.
1st Grade
The focus in grade 1 is helping students acquire knowledge regarding their place in Louisiana. First graders will gain a deeper sense of their role as citizens in a democratic society as they develop an awareness of their basic rights and responsibilities, including the laws designed to protect them. Students will continue to develop a sense of time and place as they increase their understanding of the past, present, and future through the study of Louisiana’s rich history and culture.
2nd Grade
The goal of the second grade is to introduce students to major historical events, figures, and symbols related to the principles and founding of American democracy. Young students learn to value differences among people and exemplify a respect for the rights and opinions of others. They develop an appreciation for our country’s government and its citizens while building knowledge about our founding documents, system of government, and individuals who exemplify American values and principles.
Amplify Science
Amplify Science is the Tier 1 science curriculum used in grades K-2 that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.

The Louisiana Student Standards for Science were created by over eighty content experts and educators with input from parents and teachers from across the state. Educators envisioned what students should know and be able to do to compete in our communities and created standards that would allow students to do so. The Louisiana Student Standards for Science provide appropriate content for all grades or courses, maintain high expectations and create a logical connection of content across and within grades.
