Credits and other completion requirements
Students must earn a minimum of 30 credits in required courses.
Students are required to take a “Research Guidance” provided by their main academic supervisor every semester. A maximum of 8 credits earned from the “Research Guidance” provided by their main academic supervisor can be counted as credits for completion requirements.
Students are required to earn more than 2 credits from “Project Studies Subjects” in the “Global Entrepreneurship Domain.”
Course requirements
Students must determine the courses to take according to instructions from their supervisors.
A total of 2 supervisors must be chosen: 1 main academic supervisor and 1 co-supervisor. However, 2 co-supervisors may be chosen at the discretion of the main academic supervisor.
As for “seminars” or “lectures,” students may repeat the same course and earn credits during their enrollment in the Course. However, it should be noted that only the academic results and credits earned in the first enrollment will be counted as credits for completion.
In addition to the courses listed in the table above, students are allowed to take courses offered by other graduate schools and courses of our university and by other universities (partner universities) based on Article 8 of the Graduate School Academic Rules and Regulations, when their academic supervisors consider it necessary for education and research.(In such cases, each subject can be counted toward the completion requirements only once. The grades and credits earned by taking the same subject for the second time or more can be approved but will not be counted toward the completion requirements.)
Moreover, the credits earned from subjects taken through the above-mentioned method, together with credits students earned before the admission to the graduate school treated as credits earned at this graduate school based on Article 10-2 of the Graduate School Academic Rules and Regulations (already earned credits), can be counted toward the completion requirements up to a maximum of 20 credits.
* In this Course, we encourage participation and presentation in overseas surveys, researches and academic conferences as part of research advising in order to deepen students’ own researches.

Credits and other completion requirements
Students are required to earn a minimum of 30 credits in the required courses. However, students who are admitted in AY 2019 or before, and going to be assessed in the examination of their research results on specified subjects, rather than a master’s thesis, as provided for in Article 12 of the Toyo University Graduate School Academic Rules and Regulations, must earn 32 credits or more in the required courses.
“Special Lecture on Regional Development Studies”
①Students must take a “Special Lecture on Regional Development Studies” provided by their main academic supervisor every semester, and they are required to earn 8 credits for completion.
②If 8 or more credits have been earned, up to 8 credits will be counted as credits for completion.
”Research Skill” courses
Students are required to take a minimum of 3 courses and earn more than 6 credits.
Students are required to take the “Specialized Research on Regional Development Studies” course more than twice, including the semester immediately before they plan to complete the program.

“Advanced Theory of Practical Regional Development” and “Seminar on Practical Regional Development” are offered exclusively to students enrolled under the JICA KAIGAI KYORYOKU-TAI (JICA Volunteer category) and under the JICA KOBETSU SENMONKA (JICA Individual Expert category). Notwithstanding the “Course requirement 3.,” up to 8 credits earned from the “Seminar on Practical Regional Development” can be counted for completion requirements (Regarding JICA Individual Expert category, it will apply to students who enrolled in AY 2021 and later.).

Course requirements for students dispatched as JICA KAIGAI KYORYOKU-TAI (JICA volunteers)
Students must take the “Advanced Theory of Practical Regional Development” course to earn 2 credits in the first semester after returning from dispatch.
Students must take a “Seminar on Practical Regional Development” course in each semester, to earn credits during their dispatch period.
Regarding the credits earned for the courses described in course requirements 1 and 2, up to 20 credits can be included in the number of credits required for completion.
Students must take one of the Special Lectures on Regional Development Studies courses offered by their main academic supervisor in each semester and earn the credits for the courses during the dispatch period.
Up to 8 credits that they have earned for the courses can be included in the number of credits required for completion.
Students must attend the university for at least 1 year, excluding the dispatch period.
