Rotary Young Musician.

MUSICAL YOUTH is alive and well in Towcester. This was displayed this afternoon at the Towcester CE Primary School where the Rotary Club of Towcester held the auditions for the 2025 Rotary Young Musician competition. The winners will go forward to the District  finals in March. The judging was undertaken by our two esteemed experts in music and artistic presentation, Lincoln Noel and Alison Pargeter, who gave all competitors valuable advice on their musical and presentational skills. The judges said it was extremely difficult to pick a winner in each age category, as the standards were so high.

This is an example of the Rotary Club of Towcester's ongoing support of youth initiatives in Towcester and District. If you would like to know more or get involved why not come along and meet the members. We normally meet at the Saracens Head Hotel in Towcester on a Thursday evening. Please send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk or visit our website www.towcester-rotary.org.uk for further information...

“AMAZONS AND SWALLOWS” – The Rotary Club of Towcester sponsored a group of young carers from South Northants district, aged between 12 and 16 for a day on the water. In conjunction with Northants Young Carers and Northampton Sailability, the event took place at Pitsford Sailing Club in Pitsford Reservoir and Water Park.

This gave the young people a day of change from their normal routine of looking after younger siblings or parents.

The day consisted of sailing in a Devon Long Boat, dinghy sailing, building and sailing their own rafts. This gave them an opportunity to mix with boys and girls of their own age and circumstances, giving them experience in team building and other inter-personal skills.

Northampton Young Carers offer support to young carers between the age of 5 and 17 giving them support in difficult situations where care of a sibling or adult is perhaps the only option.

Northampton Sailability have been based at Pitsford Reservoir for over 25 years, helping people with a wide range of disabilities and impairments to enjoy the freedom and enjoyment of sailing in specially adapted boats, under supervision and in a safe environment.

The Rotary Club of Towcester sponsored the event and provided lunch for everyone. On the day Rtns Steph, Conrad, Adrian and John were in attendance to assist.

Great fun was had by all participants.

Junior category winner Seren had the idea of using stop motion animation for her short film.  For Seren’s submission, it was horrible weather outside that inspired her to get to work inside, during a wet and windy half term.  Seren explains. “We went for a walk and were talking about the river. I said ‘imagine if it washed away the bridge, what would we do?’”  “My Mum said, ‘it would be rebuilt’. This is where my inspiration came from.”

In the film the bridge is washed away and rebuilt by friends. It shows that friendship is also a bridge which can be rebuilt too.

Judge Ric was a huge fan of Seren’s use of sound, with clear and emotive dialogue and a great choice of music.

Judge Roy said “Watch out Pixar.”
