Just to let you all know that the club recently had a Frugal Meal at the Saracens Head where members enjoyed a Jacket Potato as their full meal,

They all paid the normal price, the difference in cost meant that we made a donation of £250 to Mary’s Meals plus  few personal donations which were most welcome.

That's food for 20 children for a whole school year so well done everyone!

Each year Rotary International plant lots of Croci around the country.  This is "Purple for Polio"

Here we see  President Elect John Sidwick in Brackley Road looking at our Croci.

In Towcester we have a spot along Brackley Road. This year we have  given out many to organisations such as WI who have planted them on our behalf in Sawpits. We also gave 3kg to the Nicholas Hawksmore School which we hope will give much pleasure to the school children.

We also like to thank residents of Towcester for purchasing our £5 for 50 packs which will bring lots of colour to the town.

I think next year we will plant as many as we can which will be a really good show.

If you would like to pre order Croci for next year 2025 / 2026 please contact <secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk>

24th OCTOBER - ROTARY WORLD POLIO DAY - This is the day that Rotary celebrates it's ongoing fight against POLIMYELITIS or more commonly known as Polio. Some of us are old enough to remember the iron lungs, a gigantic piece of equipment that aided those suffering from this debilitating disease to breathe.

The Rotary Club of Towcester plays its part in helping to raise funds by selling crocus bulbs in bags of £5 for 50 and all the monies raised goes to the Rotary 'Purple4polio' charity. If you would like to support this and purchase a bag, visit the Rotary Club Of Towcester's shop which is located on the web site www.towcester-rotary.org.uk or call John Sidwick on 01327 352851. Delivery can be arranged.

Each year you will see beds of purple crocus flowers around the town These have been planted by the Rotary Club of Towcester in recognition of the 'Purple4polio' campaign.

PLEASE SUPPORT US

There are two countries where this is still considered to be of pandemic proportions - Pakistan and Afghanistan.

100% of the monies raised by Rotary through the selling of crocus corms are matched 2 for 1 by the Bill Gates Foundation and each year Rotary plans mass inoculations of children around the globe.

A picture of the past, but now thanks to an initiative by Rotary 35 years ago and with the aid of the Bill Gates Foundation and WHO, this disease has all but been eradicated from around the world.

Below - This is a video showing the desks which the Towcester Rotary Club has provided for the school at the Chipiti School  all 50 of them!

This is another example where our International Committee money goes.

We have now completed our project at Agona Swedru school and all the money we raised has now been spent.  Since the opening of the science building in June, we have used the last remaining funds to enable the school to replace the roof on one of the original buildings and to purchase two new projectors – one for use in the IT suite and one in the science building.

Those of you who were part of the District Grant will be aware of your commitment to The Rotary Foundation to publicise your involvement in the project and TRF’s support for it. If you have not already attended to this, the information in the attached report will help you and, to assist you further, I will shortly be sending you the article we are preparing for our local press, which you will be welcome to adapt and use yourselves.

Once again, my sincere thanks for your help and support for this project. I will continue to work with the school and keep you posted on any significant events or pupil successes.

 Yours in Rotary Service.

Paul Bertin- Kettering and Huxloe Rotary Club.

Comment from Steve Harding – Foundation Chairman Towcester Rotary Club

We were one of the Clubs who contributed to the project (£2,000) which enabled a District Grant to raise a total of £16k.

Once again this shows how Rotary can help in larger scale projects by Clubs working together.

OCTOBER IS ROTARY POLIO MONTH - Since 1985, Rotary’s key humanitarian priority has been to rid the world of polio. Polio is a virus which affects children under five and causes paralysis and even death. Rotary spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were over 1,000 cases a day in 125 countries.

Over the last 35 years, Rotary members, working with communities around the world, have contributed more than US$2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to the fight to end polio.

Because of the efforts of Rotary and our partners, nearly 19 million people who would otherwise have been paralysed are walking, and more than 1.5 million people are alive who would otherwise have died.

Rotary members in Great Britain and Ireland have been huge supporters of End Polio Now and you can be part of making history. Get involved today, For more information contact the Rotary Club of Towcester. Send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk.

July 2024

Dear Rotarians,

As a celebration of all your activities in the past Rotary year, I wanted to offer my thanks on behalf of ShelterBox for the amazing fundraising that you have carried out with your community and as a club.  According to our records*, the Rotary Club of Towcester raised a total of £2,000 in Rotary year 2023/2024.

Congratulations on becoming a Bronze Partner Club!

To say thank you and to acknowledge the efforts of clubs, we award Partner Clubs certificates each year. There are four Partner Club levels, linked to how much you donate: Bronze - £2,000; Silver - £4,000; Gold - £6,000, and Platinum - £10,000.

I have attached a Bronze Partner Club digital certificate that you may wish to display on your club’s website and Facebook page, along with an award graphic that may suit a website side column or email signature, and the digital version of our Rotary Year Impact Report. Your club is also listed on our website, where you can find out more about ShelterBox Partner Clubs: www.shelterbox.org/partnerclubs

Thank you again for your continued support of our vital work to ensure that no-one is left without shelter after disaster. It’s only thanks to generous individuals and clubs such as yourselves that we can make the necessary commitment to supporting communities as they recover and rebuild their lives.

We hope to enjoy an ongoing and impactful partnership with your club into the future.

With best wishes,

Fiona
