The Tom Knowlton Challenge
Each year the Rotary Club of Towcester is challenged by the ladies of the previous Inner Wheel and their friends to the what is known as the Tom Knowlton Challenge which is a series of pub games. The late Rtn Tom K provided a cup that is keenly fought over each year, usually in October, This year the venue was The George at Tiffield, who provided an excellent selection of meals in a basket.
The evening consisted of a number of old pub games, the centre piece being 9 pin skittles but also included bagatelle, shove-ha’penny, dominoes, shut the box and Janga. Each game was keenly contested.
Despite a tremendous effort by the Rotary Club to ‘lose’, they won! In addition to winning the trophy they also have the honour of organising next year’s competition. Pictured below is the winning captain, Rtn Bob receiving the trophy from last year’s winning captain, Rtn John.
This is just an example that Rotary isn’t all about raising money for charities, but has a fun and fellowship side. If you would like to find out more about what we do send an email to secretary@towcester-rotary.org.uk.
