Gifts to Library Media Centers
Library media centers are occasionally offered gifts of books, materials, eResources, devices etc. specific to use through the library media center. These are essentially gifts to the school or district and fall under the Topeka Public School Board policies and regulations linked below.
Acceptance of Gifts - Regulation 2175-1: - Gifts to the school of property or equipment in excess of $2500; monetary gifts from PTOs, PTAs, or business partners in excess of $1000; and monetary gifts from all others in excess of $100 will be accepted in one of the regularly scheduled meetings of the Board.
III-B. Gifts from PTOs, PTAs, or Business Partners may be accepted by the building principal subject to the following guidelines:
The gift is monetary and is less than $1000.
The gift is property or equipment and is less than $250 in value
Monetary gifts designated for the purchase of equipment still require Board approval.
III-C. Gifts from individuals or other organizations may be accepted by the building principal if the value does not exceed $100 in any one year.
III-D. All gifts of money will be processed through the receiving school's Board approved activity fund.
Gifts to the library media centers:
Part VI-b-1 Gift materials and resources are judged by basic selection standards and are accepted or rejected by these standards.
Procedure for accepting gifts:
Evaluate the value of the gift item to the library collections.
If it is determined that the gift will be useful, follow the procedures for acceptance outlined in the Regulations above.
Keep a record of gifts which includes donor, item, and value. If you wish to have that information added in Destiny for gift books, add that information when the item is turned in for cataloging and processing.
Gifts become the property of Topeka Public Schools and can be weeded or surplussed following the regulations and procedures for other property.
