TIER III & SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERVENTION
A task analysis can be used to break down a specific task into small, achievable steps to meet the learning style and needs of a student. These steps can be divided into phases for teaching. Task analyses are primarily used for complex tasks (i.e. brushing teeth, washing hands, etc.) The amount of steps included in a task analysis depends on the student's ability.
Watch a person perform the task.
Create small, achievable steps for each component of the task.
Determine a starting point for the student based on ability.
Determine if student needs to start at step 1 and work to end of task (forward chaining) or have the task almost completed and have the student perform the final step (backwards chaining).
Provide prompting through the parts of the skill where the student gets stuck or struggles to complete independently.
Monitor student's performance.
