TIER II, TIER III & SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERVENTION
A behavior contract explicitly lists the expectations for the student and the teacher. The student must be involved in the development of the contract to increase buy-in by the student. This also increases student motivation to follow the contract. This intervention is best used for students who display behaviors consistently.
The teacher will select the behaviors for the contract.
Behavior will be stated in positive terms.
i.e. The student will raise their hand and wait for the teacher to call on them before they answer or comment in class.
The student should be involved when selecting goals for the contract.
The contract should include the following:
A list of student behaviors that are to be reduced or increased
A statement or section that explains the minimum conditions for the student to earn a point
i.e. The student will earn 1 point for raising their hand during class discussions.
i.e. When the student stays in their area for 5 minutes with no more than 1 verbal reminder from an adult, they will earn 1 point.
The conditions under which the student will be able to redeem collected points
i.e. When the student has earned 5 points in the classroom, they can use the computer for 5 minutes.
