The Disaster Science Course consists of two sub-courses: Disaster Risk Education and Tsunami Engineering. Applicants will be asked to select one of these two sub-courses at the time of application.Through lectures, simulations, and field-based activities led by professors from the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), participants will explore disaster-related challenges from scientific and practical perspectives. The Disaster Science Module is combined with the Entrepreneurship Module, in which students work in international teams to identify and analyze societal challenges, develop value propositions, and propose practical solutions.

The scheduled parts of the course consist of lectures, disaster and tsunami simulation exercises, field-based learning including visits to coastal areas. The course combines classroom/cab-based learning (approximately 80%) with field-based activities (approximately 20%).
Participants will engage in hands-on simulation activities related to tsunami caused by earthquake and sub-marine landslide. These activities are designed to help students understand tsunami generation mechanisms, risk assessment, and practical approaches to disaster preparedness such as warning, evacuation and other structural measures.
