About Us
Thousand Oaks Chinese School (TOCS) was founded in 1975 with just eight students, taught by Mr. Mao-De Wang, in a rented classroom at Waverly Adult School. As enrollment grew substantially by 1989, the original facility could no longer accommodate the increasing student body, leading to a relocation to Redwood Intermediate School. In January 1998, TOCS moved once more to its current campus at Thousand Oaks High School. Due to rising operational deficits caused by inflation and a decline in student enrollment, TOCS will relocate to California Lutheran University (CLU) beginning in 2025.
In addition to offering a strong foundation in Chinese language education, TOCS provides a rich array of cultural programs and activities. In recent years, the school has focused on enhancing its curriculum and administration, while also strengthening ties with the broader community. TOCS actively seeks partnerships and support from local school districts and community organizations and participates enthusiastically in a variety of cultural events.
Within the community, TOCS is dedicated to promoting Chinese culture through outreach efforts and by welcoming visits from school officials and local residents. Within the school, the emphasis remains on enriching student programs, improving instructional quality, and rallying the Chinese-American community to support and advance Chinese language education.
