My Alarming Melody
My dear, sweet melody, you make my life better.
A burst of happiness embraces my smile.
Motivation to awaken, my mornings are not bitter.
You start my routines with a sense of style.
Dear melody, you’ve certainly caught some attention
To those bittersweet mornings, you somehow fulfill.
Others can’t stand you, your alarming presentation,
Yet I still want your music, your notes are a thrill.
My melody, you’re changing, day after day.
Your music strikes fear into my heart;
I feel less tension when I push you away.
I wish you were sweet again, back from the start.
You sicken me, my melody, I can’t stand you anymore;
You’ve ruined my mornings, and I sigh at your presence.
What once was lovely now makes me sore,
I wish I could wipe you away from existence.
My slumbered joy that you slowly turned rotten;
My love for you is now faded and forgotten.

The Brother I Never Met
This is the brother I never met
Who never blew out my birthday candles,
Who never argued over the front seat,
And who never pushed me from my bike.
This is the brother who never shouted
And left the house, silent and still,
Who never played baseball, or hit a home run,
And never asked me how to talk to a girl.
This is the brother who never loved me
Who never once called me his twin
Or called me beautiful when I felt ugly,
Or calmed the pain I bottled up.
And this is the family I would have had;
Two parents, two girls, a house, a home.
Except that home is silent and still,
And no one is there to make it loud.
