Over the last 2 weeks, our Year 6 children have been visiting their new secondary schools, this has been very successful with many positive comments about how well behaved our children are. This week Reception - Year 5 have spent time in their new classrooms meeting their new (and for some not so new) teachers. The afternoons were a success and all of the children enjoyed the time in their new classrooms. The teachers are all looking forward to getting to know their classes further in September.
Last week we had a fabulous sports day. The children loved taking part in all of the events and races. Thank-you to all of the staff who ensured the event was a big success.
A reminder that we have changed the format of our end of year reports this year. As part of this, they will be sent out via email. Please ensure that the school has the correct email address and that your inbox has the storage to accept emails

Transitional Protection (TP) Free School Meals (FSM) was introduced from April 2018. This meant that if a family no longer met the income criteria for FSM the pupil could continue to receive them until the rollout of Universal Credit had completed. The Government previously announced TP was ending on 31 March 2025, and a communication was issued to you regarding this. You may have heard that there have been some changes to the previous guidance regarding the future of FSM. We have been advised of the following.
There will be new eligibility criteria from September 2026, which will allow all parents in receipt of Universal Credit to qualify for FSM not just those with earnings below the current earnings threshold.
Transitional protection is still due to end, but it will not be until September 2026. We have also been advised that it will not be done in a staggered approach, this means from September 2026 households must meet the eligibility criteria to be entitled to free school meals.
The Government state that as detailed above, their intention is to end transitional protections alongside the change in the eligibility threshold. We await more detailed guidance on this and will communicate with you as we find out more.
You can therefore ignore the email we issued on 16 April 2025, as all children currently eligible will remain to be so until these changes come into force.
