Welcome back to the last half term of the academic year! This half term is busy with lots of exciting activities for the children and families to take part in. Please ensure that you keep your eye on the newsletter, calendar and emails so that you don't miss anything.
The weather has been rather unpredictible this week. Please ensure that your children come to school with appropraite clothing for the weather. Where possible we do try and go outside if rain is only light, therefore a waterproof jacket is just as important as a hat and suncream in warmer weather.
The children all enjoyed a performance of Treasure Island this week. The performance was excellent and all children loved seeing a performance in 'real life'! Year 5 and 6 also took part in a theatre skills workshop. During the workshop the children learnt how scenary and costume changes work; how to project their voices so that the auidence can hear them clearly; and how to stand on the stage in different positions so that the audience has a clear view of the action. We are looking forward to the Year 6 production where we hope to see these new skills in action!
The book fair is running after school tonight and Monday and Tuesday next week. Do pop in and have a look - there are some lovely books avaliable for purchase. Please note all payments are done via card.
This week Year 2 have been really busy. In Maths, we have been finding fractions in numbers and amounts. We have been finding three quarters of a number using our counters and following the steps; it was really tricky but we persevered. In English, we composed and published a recount inspired by the book 'Here I am'. The children love their new English books and are working really hard to show beautiful handwriting. In Science, we are going to be potting some seeds to watch how they grow over the coming weeks. We will be recapping the different parts of a plant and what their purpose is. In music we have been learning some new songs, focusing on singing using a high and low pitch. The songs have been so catchy Miss Ward keeps spotting us singing them! We have also been practicing our sprinting for sports day, making sure that we are using long strides and using our arms to push ourselves faster safely.
The end of the academic year is Friday 17th July. All children will need to be collected from school at 2:00pm. There will be no Big Fun Club on this day- please therefore make arrangements for collection.
